Cliffs have become a recent interest for me.
Last September I was fortunate to visit Scotland for my son's wedding to a wonderful lass from Aberdeen.
There is a rarely used walking path along the coast just south of Aberdeen.
Conditions and lighting were good the day a good friend and I walked the path.
I created these two paintings when I got back to Canada from photos I took on the walk.

I struggled at first with the impression and interpretaion of the almost overpowering visual array of materials, cuts, shapes, lines, colors and on and on.

After a few failures, I finally got these two on paper.
I felt I was able to finally just allow the images to stimulate my vision of what was there and more so, what I wanted to portray which wasn't really there; or was it ?
Sometimes I see a chocolate sundae in one of these paintings !!

Being able to move into a zone that allows one's self to move freely and confidently away from reproducing what is actually there is a thrill.

  1. Beautiful colours in the cliffs! I love the expression - the rocks are alive. I also like your sky - in particular the top left (with darker colours). WoW!
